Power Consumption of T-Mobile G1

I don't know if someone ever did this test before, I just want to know how much the current on 5V power input is.

I used a 5V Power Adapter, and a Current Clamp Meter to measure the current on the power cable, the results are listed below:

1. screen off - 160mA

2. screen on - 250mA

3. wifi/screen on - 300mA

4. gps on - 500mA

5. fly mode/screen off - 180mA

In these situations, the power consumption is almost same, except with GPS turned on. After the battery is fully changed, the current will be only for the cell phone operation.

The max power consumption is about 2.5W, when is GPS is on.

Note:
We should know 2.5W is very large for a cell phone, and the current on 5V is not same as the current on 3.7V - voltage of battery.

Don't Add My Ringtones in Music Library

The music player on G1 will automatically scan and collect the audio media files, and when you are playing all songs, the ringtones will also be played, sure that's not what you want. I just found a trick to avoid this, create a folder begin with a dot, like: ".ringtones" ".pictures", put file into this folder, then you will not see them in music library. For the pictures, it's same, if you don't want them to be shown in picture gallery, move to such folders.

When you want to see files in these folders, use ASTRO, a free file management tool, you can search and find it in market.

How to get RC33 on your G1 without the wait

1. Grab the RC33 update from Google here.

2. Rename it from signed-PLAT-RC33-from-RC30.f06aa9b3.zip to update.zip, and place it at the root (the very top directory) of your Micro SD card. (If you added the file to your microSD card by connecting the handset to your computer via USB [rather than using a dedicated microSD card reader], make sure to unmount it and disconnect the USB cable now.

3. Turn off your G1, then turn it back on by holding the Home+End keys until you see an icon popup after the T-Mobile G1 logo.

4. From the icon screen, open the keyboard and hit Alt+L. This allows you to see what’s going on during the update.

5. Press Alt+S to begin the update. Remember, the update needs to be in the root of the Micro SD card and needs to be named update.zip.

6. Once it finishes, follow the onscreen instructions and press Home+Back to finish.

7. The G1 will reboot a few times to flash different parts of the firmware.

If all went well, you should now be running the latest update, RC33. To make sure all your hard work wasn’t for nothing, hit Menu > Settings > About Phone > scroll to Build Number. You should see RC33 in there somewhere. Congrats!

Notes:

• Some microSD cards don’t seem to play friendly with this process. If you have trouble with one card, try another..

Gizmodo网站报道：MemoryUp被报告删除联系人并安装广告软件，大家觉得奇怪是他怎么会在market上，还排在最高的位置。

这个软件的作者叫Peter Liu（听起来像中国人？），这个软件的作用是用来优化Android系统内存的，但也对随机内存丢失和盗取用户邮件地址负有责任。

在Android论坛，用户下载后发现问题也警告其他人不要去使用。

用户“kr33p1n” (通过 Geek.com) 说：这个软件根本没有作用，而且还会删除联系人。用户“Mark”补充说：不要下载这个软件，破坏我的内存，然后滥发垃圾邮件，T-Mobile不能来阻止，只能靠你自己了。

其他受害者说他们内存被擦除，Email地址被盗用，被安装广告软件。

在我们写这篇文章的时候，这个软件已经下载了10,000-50,000次，932个评级，我们搞不懂这个软件怎么能第一时间放在那里。

Android论坛网友提示，Java软件本身会清理用了的内存，不需要额外的工具软件。
